IT, Networks, Cameras, Door Access and Phones for Coastal Georgia
Supporting Regional Logistics and Manufacturing Growth
Pooler grew from 25,610 residents in April 2020 to an estimated 29,544 in July 2023, while Richmond Hill grew from 16,653 to 18,459 over the same period, according to the Census Bureau. Warehouses and distribution centres have grown around Pooler, Garden City and Effingham County, including a 565,000 sq ft building on Pooler Parkway located within 12 miles of both port terminals.
The Garden City Terminal, run by the Georgia Ports Authority, is the largest single-terminal container operation in the Western Hemisphere, per the authority's fact sheet dated 2026-09-03. The fact sheet lists 34 ship-to-shore cranes and 238 rubber-tyred gantry cranes at Garden City, along with about 40 ship calls and 42 doublestack trains a week, and 16,000 truck gate moves a day. On the terminal, the Mason Mega Rail yard is served by CSX and Norfolk Southern, while Ocean Terminal in Savannah is currently being rebuilt to handle two large ships at once.
The Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America, an electric vehicle plant in Ellabell, Bryan County, officially opened in March 2025, and its state agreement calls for 8,500 jobs. Related Hyundai affiliates and suppliers are building plants in Bryan County and at the Savannah Chatham Manufacturing Center. Gulfstream Aerospace has its headquarters in Savannah and is the area's largest private employer, per a 2023 HUD market profile citing the Savannah Area Chamber. Other large employers operating in the region include St. Joseph's/Candler, Memorial Health and Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield.
Maritime Cybersecurity and Coast Guard Compliance
Waterfront terminals and many port-side plants are regulated under the Maritime Transportation Security Act, meaning the Coast Guard's cybersecurity rule (90 FR 6298, effective 2025-07-16) applies to them. This rule requires segmentation between IT and OT networks, the logging and monitoring of every IT-OT connection, and the monitoring of all third-party remote connections.
Under the Coast Guard rule, physical access to OT and related IT equipment must be limited, monitored and logged. Facilities must also maintain a documented network map, and the cybersecurity plan is due by 2027-07-16.
For port-side sites, CloudCentric maps what is connected, separates plant and office networks with VLANs and a firewall, and puts a logged badge reader and a recording camera on the room holding network cabinets and control screens. PLC and SCADA programming stays with the plant's controls integrator; CloudCentric works on the network, Wi-Fi, cameras and doors around it, and makes no ring-protocol, hazardous-location or IEC 62443 claims.
IT and Access Control for Warehouses and Trailer Yards
Warehouses need Wi-Fi coverage for handheld scanners across racking, along with outdoor access points for trailer yards. Guard shacks, gates and outbuildings on a large lot can be joined to the main building by a wireless bridge instead of trenching. Plate-reading cameras installed at a yard gate record every vehicle by time and plate.
A company with a Charleston office and a Savannah warehouse can run both sites' networks, cameras and doors from one console. Cellular internet backup keeps card terminals, phones and door controllers working during a line outage.
Protecting Georgia Data and Corporate Networks
Georgia's data breach notification law (O.C.G.A. 10-1-912) requires notice to Georgia residents whose unencrypted personal information was, or is reasonably believed to have been, taken by an unauthorised person. Notice must be given without unreasonable delay, and a breach affecting more than 10,000 Georgia residents at once also requires notice to the nationwide consumer reporting agencies.
Under the same law, a company that holds data on behalf of a covered business must notify that business within 24 hours of discovering unauthorised access. Microsoft 365 security, backup and monitoring reduce the chance that a lost laptop or a phished mailbox becomes a reportable breach.
Technology in Savannah's Historic Districts
The Savannah Historic District was listed as a National Historic Landmark district in 1966; it is laid out on the 1733 Oglethorpe plan of wards and squares. In Savannah's historic district, any exterior change visible from a public street or lane needs a certificate of appropriateness, reviewed by Metropolitan Planning Commission staff or the Historic District Board of Review.
In historic buildings, small cameras, wireless links between buildings and cabling routed through existing paths keep visible equipment to a minimum.
Managing Short-Term Vacation Rentals
Short-term vacation rentals in Savannah are allowed only inside the STVR overlay district, which covers the Downtown, Victorian and Streetcar historic districts. In the Downtown and Victorian districts, non-owner-occupied rentals are capped at 20 percent of parcels per ward, with a waiting list for full wards.
A Savannah rental certificate lasts one year, cannot be transferred to a new owner, and its number must appear on every listing. Savannah limits rental occupancy to four adults in units of up to two bedrooms, and two adults per bedroom in larger units.
For rentals, CloudCentric issues a door code per booking that starts at check-in and stops at checkout, puts cameras outside only, and runs guest Wi-Fi on its own network.
