Whole-Home Wi-Fi for Large and Waterfront Houses
Site Surveys and Physical Obstacles
A survey walks the house and reads the signal at the far corners of rooms, porches, the dock and the pool.
Access points are placed for the house's walls and floors, not its square footage.
Tabby, brick, plaster over metal lath, foil-backed insulation and metal roofs each cut how far Wi-Fi reaches through a wall.
Hardwired Network Infrastructure
Each access point is wired back to the rack with its own cable, rather than relaying Wi-Fi from one box to the next.
Cable in the rack is dressed and every run is labelled at both ends.
Phones and laptops move between access points as people walk through the house.
Indoor Access Points and Placement
UniFi's current access points are Wi-Fi 7.
Ceiling access points are fitted flush and sit on the ceiling like a smoke detector.
The U7 Pro Wall mounts flat on a wall where a ceiling position will not work.
The U7 In-Wall replaces a wall plate and adds three wired network ports, so a TV or console in the same room can be plugged in.
Porches, Docks and Outbuildings
The U7 Outdoor is rated IPX6 and mounts on a wall or a pole for porches, pools and docks.
Ubiquiti publishes no salt-spray rating for its outdoor access points, so their placement and fixings on oceanfront houses are chosen at the survey.
Where no cable can reach a dock or outbuilding, a U7 Mesh or a point-to-point wireless link carries the network across.
Network Separation and Reliability
The family network, a guest network and a network for cameras, locks and smart devices are kept separate.
A guest network can be set to reach the internet only, with guests unable to see each other's devices.
A second internet line or a UniFi 5G backup can take over automatically when the main line drops.
Handover and Support
Coverage is tested on a phone in each room and outdoor area at handover.
The homeowner's own UniFi login is set up at handover, alongside remote support access.
