Integrating UniFi Cameras, Doors, and Networks with Control4 and Home Assistant
The Role of UniFi in Automation Systems
CloudCentric is a managed IT provider in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, serving businesses across Charleston and the Lowcountry. You can reach us at (844) 422-7000.
UniFi provides the network, Wi-Fi, cameras, door and gate access, and phones that an automation system sits on. UniFi does not control lighting, shades, whole-house audio, home theatre, or climate.
The UniFi network carries a separate network for automation controllers, TVs, and smart devices, apart from family devices and guests. Recordings stay on the UniFi recorder in the house; the automation system shows live views and events from it.
Using UniFi with Control4
Cindev's UniFi Protect driver for Control4, sold through DriverCentral, brings in G3 to G6 and AI-series cameras, doorbells, floodlights, chimes, and Protect sensors. That driver passes camera events to Control4: person, vehicle, animal, line crossing, known and unknown faces, recognised vehicles, and doorbell rings. The Cindev driver connects to the Protect system on the local network; its cloud connection is used only for licence activation.
Chowmainsoft also makes a UniFi driver for Control4 that adds network control and recorder playback.
UniFi Access intercoms can send doorbell calls to a Control4 system over SIP, and Control4 is on Ubiquiti's list of supported SIP servers.
Using UniFi with Home Assistant
Home Assistant has an official UniFi Protect integration that runs locally, with live camera feeds, doorbell rings, detections, sensors, floodlights, and chimes. The Home Assistant Protect integration needs a local UniFi user; Ubiquiti cloud logins do not work with it. Home Assistant can also show the G4 Doorbell Pro's package camera and change the message on its screen.
Home Assistant added an official UniFi Access integration in version 2026.4. The Home Assistant UniFi Access integration connects over the local network and receives door events pushed in real time. The Home Assistant Access integration can unlock a door, report whether a door is open, report doorbell rings and access granted or denied, and trigger whole-house lockdown or evacuation.
A Home Assistant automation can, for example, turn on porch lights when the doorbell rings or a car arrives at the gate.
Other Platforms and UniFi Talk
Apple Home has no official UniFi integration; community Homebridge plugins for UniFi Protect and UniFi Access exist.
No Savant or Crestron driver for UniFi was found.
UniFi Access intercoms can also ring UniFi Talk phones over SIP.
