360 and 180-Degree Cameras for Open Spaces
Reducing Hardware with Wide-Angle Coverage
If you own a shop, office, warehouse, showroom, lobby, or event space covering an open room, a single wide-angle camera can replace several ordinary cameras.
A 360 or 180-degree camera covers a room with one cable, one mount, and one recorder slot, where ordinary cameras need one of each per corner or aisle.
Because there is no per-camera recording licence, this yields a saving in cabling and labour as well as hardware.
Camera Specifications and Features
The G6 Pro 360 is a 12MP fisheye camera with a resolution of 3504 x 3504 pixels that views 180 degrees in every direction and is rated IK10 for impact.
The G6 180 is a 16MP dual-4K camera with a resolution of 7680 x 2160 and a 180-degree horizontal view.
For multi-directional coverage from a single installation point, the AI Multi Sensor 4 puts four 8MP sensors on one mount, while the AI Multi Sensor 2 puts two on one mount.
Line crossing counting is available on the G6 and AI series cameras, but it is not available on PTZ models.
Common Layouts and Deployments
A common layout is placing a 360 camera over the floor and a face-capable camera at the door.
A festival operator successfully covered a tent mostly with AI 360 cameras for theft review and police requests.
These models also work in smaller settings, as a homeowner reports one 360 camera over a foyer works well.
Software and Hardware Limitations
Face recognition and licence plate recognition are not available on 360 models, though the G6 180 does support both.
If you use a Viewport video display, de-warped 360 views are capped at about two per screen.
Following a person across 360 views and exporting de-warped clips was historically poor, leading the festival operator to build their own tool.
A later Protect release added de-warped export, but one commenter found it not working.
