Keeping Fax Machines and Analog Phones Working on UniFi Talk

Connecting Analog Equipment to UniFi Talk

The UniFi Analog Telephone Adapter (UT-ATA) connects analog telephones and fax machines to UniFi Talk. It has two RJ11 analog phone ports, so one adapter serves two lines or devices. It connects to the network by cable with PoE power, or by Wi-Fi with USB-C power. CloudCentric installs UniFi Talk ATAs in place of analog adapters from other makers such as Grandstream.

Device Management and Phone Features

The adapter is managed in the UniFi Talk application, version 1.12.0 or later, alongside the Talk desk phones. Phones on the adapter get voicemail, caller ID, call transfer, call waiting, do not disturb and three-way calling from Talk. Wall phones in warehouses, break rooms and loading docks can stay on the adapter as extensions, and calls between extensions are free. The UT-ATA spec page does not list alarm panels, elevator phones or gate call boxes, and those are not moved onto it.

Fax Compatibility and Network Testing

Voice uses the G.711 codec, and fax is passed through over G.711. The UT-ATA does not list T.38, the fax-over-internet protocol many fax services prefer. Fax over G.711 works best on a clean, low-jitter internet connection, so the network and internet line are checked before a fax line moves. Each fax machine is test-sent and test-received through the adapter at handover, before the old line is cancelled. For medical, legal, insurance or real estate offices that send regulated documents, an email-to-fax or online fax service can be simpler than keeping a fax machine.

Number Porting, Pricing and Contact Information

A fax machine on the adapter can keep its existing number, as porting a number into UniFi Talk is free. Each device needing its own outside number uses a Talk number. Talk Plus is $9.99 per number per month in the US, checked 2026-10-26 on ui.com. The published price for the UniFi Analog Telephone Adapter (UT-ATA) is $99 (US list), checked 2026-10-26 on store.ui.com.
