License Plate Gate Access
Automated Access for Motorized Gates
HOAs, gated communities, marinas, fleet yards, self-storage facilities, office parks, and warehouses can use this system to open motorized gates for known license plates. The setup pairs an Access Gate Hub (UA-Hub-Gate) or a Gate Starter Kit with an AI camera running License Plate Unlock. Cameras that support License Plate Unlock include the AI LPR, G6 Bullet, G6 Turret, G6 180, AI Pro, AI Theta, and G6 Entry.
Hardware Compatibility and Wiring
The system works with sliding, swing, barrier, and roll-up gates, and can also cover a pedestrian side door. One installer successfully extended the same hub to a warehouse door. The Gate Hub can run over existing two-wire cable to the gate using a PoE extension. Users have wired the system to LiftMaster gate openers through the single-button or exit terminals, but newer LiftMaster Security 2.0 boards are harder to wire.
Unified Plate and Video Management
The approved plate list, the gate log, and the camera footage sit in one system. All license plate reads are searchable in Protect.
Safety Requirements and Security Limitations
This system provides convenience, not high security. The most-agreed replies in an installer thread noted that a printed or copied plate could open the gate. Required safety measures must be in place, as License Plate Unlock will not work unless the gate operator's UL 325 entrapment protection devices are connected. Doors on fire alarm release and local code remain the installer's responsibility.
