What is Microsoft 365 Copilot?

Microsoft’s assistant working inside Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams, answering from the company’s own documents, mail and meetings.

The license that grants it

Microsoft 365 Copilot Business

An add-on, never a plan on its own.

The plans that carry a price

Two plans come with Copilot already in them: Business Standard with Copilot at $30 a seat, and Business Premium with Copilot at $40.

The add-on itself sits on top of Business Basic, Business Standard, Business Premium or Apps for business.

There are two Copilot add-ons, not one, and they accept different plans. The plan somebody is already on decides which of them they can buy.

  • Draft and rewrite inside Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams.

  • Answer from the company’s own documents, mail and meetings rather than from the web.

  • Summarize a meeting the person did not attend.

Which plans it can be added to

Copilot Business sits on top of a plan rather than replacing one. These are the plans it can be added to, at their own prices.

What the paid license adds

The chat included with a Microsoft 365 subscription answers from the web. Answering from the company’s own files and mail is what the paid license adds.

Worth knowing

  • Two different add-ons with different eligibility. Which one a customer can buy depends on the plan underneath.

Common questions

Does any Microsoft 365 plan include Copilot?

None of them. It is bought on top of a plan, or in one of the two plans that come with it already included.

Which of the two Copilot add-ons can a customer buy?

It depends on the plan underneath. Copilot Business sits on Business Basic, Business Standard, Business Premium or Apps for business. The wider Microsoft 365 Copilot accepts a longer list, including the frontline and Exchange plans.

What does the version included with a subscription do?

It answers from the web, the way a public chat assistant does. Answering from the company’s own files, mail and meetings is what the paid license adds.

What do the bundled plans cost?

Business Standard with Copilot is $30 a seat and Business Premium with Copilot is $40. Both are the base plan with the assistant included, rather than an add-on bought separately.
