What the install covers
PoE sends power down the same cable as the data, so cameras, phones, door readers and access points need no socket at the far end.
Sizing is port count plus total power draw plus headroom. Install covers mounting, uplinks, VLANs and a labelled patch panel.
Questions we get asked
What is PoE and why does it matter?
Power over Ethernet sends power down the same cable as the data, so cameras, phones, door readers and access points do not need a power socket where they are mounted. It is what makes a clean install possible.
How do I know what size switch I need?
Port count plus total power draw plus headroom. The power budget is the part that gets underestimated - a switch can have enough ports and still not enough watts.
